In Fall 2025, the NYC Union of Students are conducting a study to learn about the experiences and perspectives of New York City college students on higher education. By conducting a survey of all NYC college students, across both the publics and privates, we hope to be able to develop higher education policy for the city, made by and for students.

If you are currently enrolled in college in NYC and 18 years or older, you are invited to participate by completing an anonymous online survey that takes about 10–15 minutes. Participation is completely voluntary, and you may stop at any time. There are minimal risks to taking part, and your responses may help inform future discussions about higher education in the city.

Why a survey?

We are conducting a survey because we believe those most intimately impacted by research should be leaders in shaping research questions, framing interpretations, and designing meaningful actions and policy from said research.

Too often, politicians will make a policy without consulting the communities impacted. We believe students should be the ones making the policy decisions that impact them.

Steps and Timeline

Throughout Fall of 2025, we will be conducting this survey across NYC colleges and universities. Based on the results of this survey, the NYC Union of Students will then develop products and findings, which will include a NYC Higher Education Policy Roadmap. This will be completed by the end of the Fall 2025 semester, with our findings then distributed widely, with the aims of organizing around our policies in 2026 in order to win policy made by-and-for the students of NYC.
